day 28: A Late Night and a Moment of Regret

Tuesday threw a major curveball at my routine. I got caught in a massive, heavy downpour on my way back from work, which completely brought the evening traffic to a standstill. By the time I finally managed to open the door to my house, the clock read 8:00 PM.
For the very first time since starting this 41-day journey, I was incredibly late getting home.
### Facing the Compromise
Because the ideal time window for the evening prayers had completely passed while I was stuck on the road, I had to make a tough choice. For the first time during this Deeksha, I ended up skipping my evening Sandhyavandanam.
Stepping into the house and realizing I missed it brought a heavy wave of genuine regret. When you build such a tight, beautiful discipline day after day, breaking it—even due to something completely out of your control like the weather—really stings.
### Prioritizing the Focus
However, I refused to let the late hour completely derail the night. I quickly washed up and immediately sat down to perform my Ayyappa pooja. I poured all my focus into the bhajans and chants, using that time to center my mind and clear out the frustration of the stressful commute.
By the time the final aarati was done, I was absolutely starving. Thankfully, Amma had prepared a plate of fresh, yummy chapathis. Sitting down to a warm, comforting meal after a long, rainy battle on the roads was the perfect relief. With a full stomach and a prayer for better scheduling tomorrow, I called it a night.
### Today’s Lesson
Lord Ayyappa taught me today that life will occasionally disrupt our best intentions, and guilt is simply a sign of how deeply we care about our vows. Missing a ritual hurts, but the true test of discipline isn't being perfect—it is about not giving up when the schedule breaks. You acknowledge the regret, perform the remaining prayers with double the devotion, and keep moving forward.
Swamiye Saranam Ayyappa.
