Day 24: Tests of Willpower and the Taste of Home
We are officially at Day 24, rapidly closing in on the halfway mark of this 41-day journey. Reaching this point feels incredible, especially on a Friday that tested my focus and rewarded my discipline in equal measure.
### The Ultimate Cricket Fan’s Test
For a massive cricket lover like me, the IPL season is usually like exam season.I simply cannot sleep without watching the matches. Hearing the IPL news floating around today was a huge temptation, but I have strictly kept my eyes off the screen.
When I started this Deeksha, I took a personal vow not to watch a single match until the completion of my rituals, treating it as a true test of my willpower. Today, I can proudly say the test is working. Choosing devotion over distraction and actually sticking to it brings a profound sense of inner happiness that no cricket match could match.
### Six Hours in Search of Wisdom
With the time I saved by staying away from entertainment, I dived into a massive six-hour spiritual immersion this afternoon. I spent hours listening to the life stories and philosophy of Adi Shankaracharya, which opened my eyes to the sheer scale of his intellect.
Driven by curiosity, I also did some deep personal research into the practice of Sandhyavandanam. I explored the subtle variations in how it is performed across different regions, the historical reasons behind those differences, and the core philosophy that unites them all. It was an incredibly enriching day for my mind.
### The Best Reward
To make the evening absolutely perfect, Amma is finally back! After days of cooking for myself, I was treated to a comforting, delicious meal cooked entirely by her. There is truly nothing in the world that compares to the taste of food made by a mother’s hands.
With a full stomach and a mind deeply satisfied by a day of learning, I completed my evening rituals and headed to bed.
### Today’s Lesson
Lord Ayyappa taught me today that willpower is a muscle the more you choose your vows over your habits, the stronger it becomes. When you close your eyes to external distractions like the IPL, you open them to much deeper wisdom like the teachings of Shankaracharya. And sometimes, the divine rewards your small sacrifices with the simple blessing of a mother's love and a home-cooked meal.
Swamiye Saranam Ayyappa.
