Day 18: Walking the Red Carpet in Faith

Saturday was a massive day that pushed me completely out of my comfort zone. I attended a massive Toastmasters District Level Conference that ran from 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM.
Initially, I was incredibly hesitant to even enroll. A district conference is a grand corporate event where everyone shows up in sharp suits and formal wear, and I knew I would have to attend in my traditional Deeksha attire. The thought of standing out so drastically made me pause. But I received some beautiful motivation from my dear one. Her encouragement gave me the strength to look past my hesitation, take the leap, and enroll.
### Standing Tall on the Red Carpet
Stepping into the venue in my black dress and Mala, walking right onto the red carpet of a premier district conference, was an unforgettable experience. All my initial apprehensions melted away the moment I interacted with people. Everyone was incredibly warm, respectful, and genuinely nice to me.
Many came up to ask about the Deeksha and the significance of the attire. As I explained the discipline and the lifestyle behind it, they were so fascinated that a few even smiled and said, "You should definitely give a speech on this at the conference!"
The biggest highlight of the event was meeting some exceptionally good speakers, including Ramona J. Smith, the World Champion of Public Speaking! Being in the presence of such high-caliber talent and sharing space with them while wearing my Mala was truly inspiring. It was a wonderful reminder that people respect authenticity when you carry your faith with confidence.
### Sticking to the Rules Amidst the Gala
A major corporate event like this comes with a grand gala lunch and an evening party, which can be a huge test for anyone on a Deeksha. But I stayed completely anchored to my rules.
While everyone else was enjoying the lavish conference spread, I sat down and ate the simple lunch box I had cooked and packed from home. I also completely skipped the evening party, choosing to head straight back home instead. I cheered my heart out for my friends who were participating, enjoyed the great energy of the day, and maintained my boundaries without a single compromise.
Once I got home, I had a simple dinner and gave my body some much-needed rest after a long, fulfilling day.
### Today’s Lesson
Lord Ayyappa taught me today that the world respects you when you respect your own boundaries. Walking a corporate red carpet in spiritual attire and meeting global icons requires a different kind of courage. But with the right motivation, you realize that your faith is never an embarrassment—it is your identity. True discipline is being able to sit in a room full of luxury and still choose your home-cooked meal with a smile.
