Day 17: The Silence of the Self
Today brought a beautiful shift in focus. While the last few days were about managing physical activity and external schedules, Day 17 was a deeply internal journey that slowed down the world around me.
### Sitting with the Sage of Arunachala
From the afternoon onward, I found myself completely absorbed in listening to the life and teachings of Bhagavan Ramana Maharshi. Learning about his journey and his profound realization of the Self was incredibly moving.
What struck me most was his absolute simplicity and humility. Here was a master who possessed the ultimate spiritual wisdom, yet lived with nothing, treated every being—human or animal—with the same divine respect, and never sought attention or fame. It was a powerful reminder of how small our egos are and how much I need to learn about being truly humble.
### A Quiet Evening at the Temple
Carrying that meditative mindset into the evening, I went to the temple. Instead of rushing through the darshan, I sat down in the premises and spent some quiet time there. The atmosphere was peaceful, and sitting in that sacred space allowed the teachings I had been listening to all afternoon to truly sink in.
After returning home, I wrapped up the day with a simple dinner and a relaxed mind, ready for rest.
### Today’s Lesson
Lord Ayyappa taught me today through the reflection on Ramana Maharshi that true strength lies in humility, not in noise. The ultimate goal of any discipline or Deeksha is to quiet the mind and look inward. When we reduce our ego, we make room for real peace to enter.
Swamiye Saranam Ayyappa.
